The equipment has arrived

Bright and early this morning,  the playground equipment arrived safe and sound.   Though it was pouring rain, 11 brave souls showed up to unload the truck.  Thanks to everyone who helped out this morning.  Special thanks to Matthew Reid, Lee Smith and Barry Power.

Five more sleeps until the big day

Hi everyone.  Hope everyone is as excited as we are.  The big day is only 5 days away.  Here is a summary of the day's schedule:

7:30 am          Registration begins

11:30 am        Lunch breaks begin

2:30 pm          Playground completed; inspection done

3:00 pm          Group Photo

3:30 pm          Grand Opening Ceremony

4:00 pm          Pig Roast and Celebration begins

Snacks including tea, coffee and juice will be available in the morning and lunch will be served starting at 11:30.  We will also have large water dispensers on the site all day.  Please bring your refillable water bottles. At the end of the day, all volunteers will be treated to a pig roast with all the fixings.

Registration will begin at 7:30 and all the work will start shortly after that.  It will be a fun and memorable day for everyone. 

Tools Required for Build Day

We are asking all volunteers to help us with the tools we will need to complete the project on Build Day.  If you can bring any of the tools, please let us know.  You can call Colin Newhook at 592-2998 or email cnewhook@eastlink.ca or Tracy Smith at 592-2502 or email tracy.smith@eastlink.ca .  The following is a list of the tools we will need.

·         1’/2’(torpedo) & 4’ Level – 8 ea.

·         Impact Driver (see photo for example)- 6

·         Cordless Drill – 8

·         Drill bits – 21/64”, 5/32”, ¼”,1/8” – 4 ea.

·         Wheelbarrow - 30

·         Generator – 2

·         Stone Rake – 40 

·         Shovels - 30

·         Wrench/Ratchet – 3 – 4 (common sizes ¾”,1/2”,9/16”,1/4”)

·         Torx Bits (if possible) – common sizes are T45,T30,T55,T40, & T27

·         Stepladder – 10 (8’ – 10’ if possible)

·         Extension cord (25’ long) – 10

·         Lawn Mover – 4

·         Weed Eater – 4

·         Tree Shears – 4

·         Chain Saw – 2

Getting There

We are only 17 days away from the big day and we couldn't be more excited.  We are getting close to reaching our financial goals but we are not quite there.  We want to make this project the best it can be.  Help us reach our goal.  Any and all donations will be appreciated.

We're Building a Garden

For months the Isthmus Regional Playground Committee has been planning the playground project to give our children this wonderful gift.   During this journey, it has often been discussed of how many small children have passed away in our area over the years.  This kind of tragic death has touched each of us in some way or another, so we came up with an idea to remember the children who have passed.  On Build Day, we will be creating a “Garden of Angels” and will give every family who has lost a child a flower to plant in the garden in memory of their little angel.  

To ensure that we have enough flowers and that no family is left out, we would like your help.  If you have lost a child or know someone from the area that has, please contact Tracy Smith at 592-2502 or email tracy.smith@live.ca.

The winning tickets were drawn today at Holy Family Elementary in the presence of many. 

1st prize - 2 tickets anywhere Westjet flies.

Thank You to the Murphy Family

A couple of weeks ago, a dear friend of the Playground Committee, Michael Murphy of Chapel Arm, died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 41.  Mikey was a friend to all and was respected and loved by everyone who had the great privilege of knowing him.  Mikey was a strong supporter of the Playground Project and was very excited to help out on Build Day, so the Murphy Family asked that any donations in his memory be made to Playground Fund.  We received $1,935.  We would like to thank everyone who donated to the project.

Our sincere condolences go out to Lena and her family and to Linda, his partner and best friend.  Words cannot express how deeply sorry we are for your loss.  And we cannot thank you enough for the very generous gift you have given us.
